Mekong Development Research Institute (MDRI) and Institute of Public Policy and Management (National Economics University, Vietnam) have invited Professor Nicholas Howard to present his study titled “the real causes of the recent economic crisis and current economic turmoil”
Speaker: Dr. Howard Nicholas, International Institute of Social studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam

Dr. Nicholas Howard is Senior Lecturer in Economics at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University of Rotterdam, the Netherland. Dr. Nicholas has extensive experience in teaching business and financial markets in Asia, Africa and Latin America. His field of research and teaching includes dynamics of global macroeconomics, financial markets, monetary and pricing theories.

His talk had been extremely well-received by a wide range of audience including Political Advisor from Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, Researcher at Institute for European studies – VASS, MDRI researchers, specialists from Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), Reporters from Vietnam Economic Times and Investment Review. The talk identifies the real reasons for the crisis and the continuing turmoil of the world economy. The shift in economic power away from the U.S and towards Europe and developing countries, the business cycles as well as misguided policies in advanced countries are among major factors. His study has forecasted that in the short-term, tightening of fiscal policies complemented by easy monetary policies in the advanced countries would continue to take place. In the long-term, a shift in global GDP and global growth from advanced countries towards developing nations would most likely to occur. In particularly, continuing growth of Asia and the rise of Latin America and Africa are expected to happen in the upcoming period.
