Client: Oxfam in Vietnam
Time: 11/2018 – 02/2020
Overview: Vietnam has demonstrated that it is possible to achieve both a high growth rate and consistently reduce poverty levels. Nonetheless, a significant challenge for the future is still posed, given the current reduced growth rates and high budget deficits, which will limit public spending and the ability of existing policies to tackle multiple inequalities experienced by the most deprived groups.
The objective of the project is to enhance the knowledge and understanding of economic and social inequalities, their drivers and underlying factors at different spatial levels, as well as the most effective policies and approaches to reduce them. It will contribute to the goals of the research facility on inequalities through the analysis of multidimensional inequalities in Vietnam. The project will address the following key questions:
Q1: What are the most relevant inequalities in Vietnam?
Q2: What are the most critical inequality drivers in Vietnam?
Q3: What policies should national governments in Vietnam prioritise to foster inequality reduction?
Main tasks:
- Organize consultation workshop with relevant stakeholders
- Develop detailed methodology (desk review, national statistics analysis of quantitative focus, with qualitative complement on human stories, verification of quantitative findings)
- Develop qualitative tool
- Analyze the quantitative indicators about inequalities in Vietnam
- Conduct field work in selected provinces for qualitative data collection and analysis
- Prepare the report
