OVERVIEW
The World Bank is conducting a study on the household registration (hộ khẩu) system in Vietnam. This study requires a new household survey that focuses on employment, household welfare, public services use (school attendance, public health utilization including vaccination rates and use of prenatal care), costs of public service access, migration history, and household registration status.
MDRI conducted this survey with a total sample size of 5000 respondents, including all types of residents regardless of their household registration status, and both households and individuals. This large-scale survey was carried out in 5 provinces: Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Da Nang, Binh Duong and Dak Nong. These provinces are among those with the highest rates of migration as estimated using data from Census 2009.
The analysis report is expected to examine the effects of the household registration system on migrants in Vietnam by providing a detailed profile of migrants without permanent residence permits. It will compare people with and those without a permanent residence permit in different areas from demography and education to employment and social inclusion. Accessibility to public services and social protection will be examined.
