On September 17, 2013, Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) coordinated with United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) to organize the Consultation Workshop on the MDGR 2013 (Full Version) written by the consulting team from Mekong Development and Research Institute (MDRI).
The workshop attracted the participation of many researchers and consultants from leading national institutes and international development organizations such as the World Bank, International Labour Organization, the United Nations Population Fund… as well as representatives from ministerial, provincial and related agencies.
In the opening speeches, Mr. Nguyen The Phuong, Deputy Minister of MPI, and Ms. Louise Chamberlain, UNDP Country Director, emphasized the importance of MDG Report 2013, recounted key points of the preparation and writing process as well as restraints of time, human resources and statistics. Then, Dr. Phung Duc Tung and Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong presented main findings from the report, analyzing the development background of Vietnam during 2010-2013 period, highlighting notable achievements and pointing out major challenges in the progress of achieving MDGs. The workshop followed with advice and feedback from attendants. The report gained high appreciation from all researchers and was considered a valuable reference for future policies. Researchers also pointed out certain areas which the report could improve on. The workshop concluded with the summaries of Mr. Nguyen The Phuong and Ms. Louise Chamberlain, capturing key feedback as well as setting out the agenda for the consulting team to deliver the final report to the Prime Minister.
