MDRI’s new book: 54 Ethnic Groups – WHY different?

For the first time, a complete mosaic of 54 ethnic minorities in Vietnam is depicted in a comprehensive and vividly designed book released by MDRI.

Although there have been substantial studies on ethnic minority poverty in Vietnam examining diverse aspects of living conditions and aim to identify the underlying causes of poverty, most of the research can only capture the situation of 10 major ethnic groups. The remaining groups (44 ethnic groups) are similarly treated as one, which cannot avoid the misinterpretations of research results. Therefore, policy implications based on these studies might not be appropriate for each ethnic minority group as well as for the targeting purposes of current programs. Based on our knowledge and experience while working with donors and NGOs, Mekong Development Research Institute (MDRI) has endeavored to depict a mosaic of 54 ethnic minorities in Vietnam in the book entitled “54 Ethnic Groups – WHY different?”.
