Dr. Phung Duc Tung presented at the annual donor meeting hosted by UNDP

Hanoi Jan 15, 2015. Dr. Phung Duc Tung, Director of Mekong Development Research Institute attended the annual donor meeting hosted by UNDP on January 15th.
The meeting aimed to review what the donors have been carrying out in the past year and discussed a set of priority agenda to focus their assistance in the coming period.

During the meeting, Dr. Phung Duc Tung has presented a summary on a comprehensive evaluation of UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) assistance for the Millennium Development Goals in Vietnam over the last 15 years.

His presentation on the result of an impact evaluation study of DFID’s aid is regarded as a thorough review of the efforts of this agency before exiting the country as a bilateral donor in 2016. The speech also provided helpful lessons to a number of key stakeholders, including the Government of Vietnam post MDG period, other donors operating in country and DFID’s support in other partner nations.

Key findings were presented, which demonstrated evidence on efficiency and sustainability of DFID’s assistance. Lessons from the evaluation also showed that strategic consistency, longitudinal programmatic focus and spatial portfolio selectivity, and effective counterpart and partner systems are valuable lessons for development assistance implementation in Vietnam.
