Dr. Phung Duc Tung presented research results at a National Assembly’s meeting on Nov 14, 2014

Hanoi.Nov 14. Dr. Phung Duc Tung, MDRI’s Director, presented in front of the National Assembly with the Institute’s recent research on ethnic minorities’ resettlement situations at hydro-power project areas in Vietnam.

At the workshop, Dr. Phung provided a policy brief to members of the National Assembly (NA) on the recently completed research. This is an assessment of the socio-economic impacts of hydro-power resettlement projects on ethnic minorities.

The research comprises of reviews on policy frameworks, laws and regulations regarding the resettlement of ethnic minorities at project sites. In addition, MDRI expert team has conducted 3 field trips to hydropower project areas within Tuyen Quang and Quang Nam provinces. Insights and case studies have been collected at the field level to acquire qualitative data on the circumstances of impacted ethnic populations there.

With his address to the NA, Dr. Phung and the Institute are hoping to convey a clear picture of the situtation of impacted ethnic minorities in project areas as well as relevant policy implications to the government and policy makers.
